Also known as Keyhole Surgery. It is the preferred method for Inguinal, Umbilical, and Incisional hernias because it offers less pain, minimal scarring, and faster recovery.
In traditional open surgery, a large cut is made to fix the hernia. In Laparoscopic repair, we make 3 tiny punctures. This means significantly less trauma to the body tissues.
3 small cuts (0.5 - 1 cm) instead of one large cut.
A laparoscope (camera) magnifies the view for precision.
A large mesh is placed from the inside to cover the hole.
Less muscle cutting means faster return to normal life.
The surgery is done entirely *outside* the abdominal cavity (between muscle layers). Best for bilateral (both sides) inguinal hernias. No risk of damaging intestines.
The surgeon enters the abdominal cavity to fix the hernia. Useful for very large hernias or recurrent cases.
TEP vs TAPP Explained
"Patients are amazed that they can walk around the same evening after surgery. That's the power of Laparoscopy."
Dr. Jaya Maheshwari explains how the mesh is placed securely from behind the muscle, providing a stronger repair than open surgery.
