STARR Surgery
(Stapled Repair)

**Stapled Transanal Rectal Resection.** The definitive minimally invasive cure for Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS), Rectoceles, and Internal Prolapse.

Do you need STARR?

This surgery is specifically for patients with **Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS)**. If you have the following symptoms despite eating fiber, you might be a candidate:

  • Excessive straining (>20 mins)
  • Feeling of 'blockage' in rectum
  • Need to press inside vagina/anus
  • Incomplete emptying feeling
  • Prolapse (Rectum coming out)
  • Laxatives don't help anymore

How does the Stapler work?

In ODS, the rectal wall becomes loose and folds in on itself (Intussusception), creating a trap for stool. STARR surgery uses a surgical stapler to **remove the loose, baggy tissue** and staple the healthy muscle back together. This straightens the rectum, allowing stool to pass freely again.

No External Cuts

The entire surgery is performed through the anal opening. No scars on the belly.

Dual Stapling

We use advanced circular staplers that cut excess tissue and seal the wound simultaneously.

Fast Recovery

Since there are no skin incisions, pain is minimal. Most patients go home in 24 hours.

Cures ODS

It fixes the mechanical blockage (Rectocele/Intussusception) that laxatives cannot fix.

STARR Procedure Explained

Treating ODS

"We restore the anatomy of the rectum. Once the mechanical block is gone, the patient can pass stool naturally without straining."

Dr. Jaya Maheshwari demonstrates (via animation) how the internal prolapse blocks stool and how the STARR stapler removes the obstruction without external cuts.
